Over ₹1,340 crore to overhaul Hyderabad’s street illumination - The HinduPublished - July 18, 2026 05:34 am IST - HYDERABADMore than a year after the streetlight contact ended with the Energy Efficiency Services Limited, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has taken the first decisive step towards resolving the longstanding issue with the street illumination, by inviting bids for selection of an agency for comprehensive operation and maintenance of LED streetlights in the city for the coming 10 years.Tenders have been called for on Friday at an estimated cost of ₹1,341.6 crore., for the entire city represented by the Core Urban Region (CURE) constituting three municipal corporations.As per the terms specified in the tender document, all existing streetlights are to be replaced with higher wattage, high efficiency LED luminaires within two years. This translates into a total 7.61 lakh LED streetlight fixtures together with bulbs. The existing 34,512 CCMS (Centralized Control and Monitoring System) panels and other switching points should be replaced with new ones within six months.A dedicated centralised dashboard must be established for each Corporation (GHMC, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri) to enable real-time monitoring, control and management of the street lighting system. For maintenance of the streetlights, there should be one batch for 2,500 streetlights, in place of the earlier norm of one batch per 4,000 streetlights.The contractor should deploy 60 hydraulic cranes, one for each circle, during the replacement phase, and a minimum of 30 hydraulic cranes during the maintenance period, with additional cranes deployed as required. A dedicated CCMS maintenance team comprising two technicians per Circle must be deployed exclusively for the maintenance of CCMS panels and associated equipment.Penalties will be levied if the glowing percentage of street lights falls below 98%, as specified in the Service Level Agreement (SLA).
