Brighton have completed the signing of highly-rated Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic in a club-record £50m deal. Vuskovic, who did not play a competitive game during his time at Spurs, joins Brighton in a deal reportedly made up of £46m plus £4m in add-ons.The 19-year-old departs North London as Spurs' fourth-most expensive sale in their history, behind Gareth Bale, Harry Kane and Kyle Walker. Spurs signed Vuskovic from Hajduk Split last season but sent him out on loan to Bundesliga side Hamburg, where he excelled during the 2025-26 campaign. He made 30 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals. Vuskovic also registered team-high totals for successful passes (1,398), aerial duels won (162) and clearances (262), while only Fabio Vieira (seven) netted more times for Hamburg than the teenager. Vuskovic made it clear after returning to England that he wanted to play first-team football, something Spurs could not guarantee him having signed Bournemouth's Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. And with Cristian Romero, Kevin Danso and Micky van de Ven ahead of him in the pecking order, Vuskovic has decided to join Brighton on a five-year contract. "Luka has enjoyed a fantastic start to his career – it's one we've followed closely," Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler told the club's website. "Last season he demonstrated he can play at a very high level, and we want to help him build on that within our environment."There's been a lot of external noise about Luka joining us, but he is still a young guy who will need time to adjust to the demands of playing for Brighton and the Premier League."We are confident that he will take this in his stride though."We are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur!— Brighton & Hove Albion (@OfficialBHAFC) July 14, 2026Vuskovic fills the gap left by Van Hecke, who will link up with former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, and becomes the Seagulls' sixth addition this summer. He was a part of Croatia's World Cup squad, playing and starting just one game in his nation's 4-2 defeat against England in their opening match of the tournament. Brighton have also welcomed Zadok Yohanna, Pascal Struijk, Costinha, Michael Svoboda and Rodrigo Rego, while also allowing Brajan Gruda to return to RB Leipzig on loan. Hurzeler's side are preparing for a return to European competition after finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, enough to qualify for the Conference League. It is the first time they are competing in Europe since 2023-24 when they reached the last 16 of the Europa League. They begin their Premier League campaign at home to Aston Villa on August 23 before travelling to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea seven days later.
