Wesley Girls’ High School has officially launched activities to mark its 190th anniversary, with stakeholders calling for renewed investment to preserve the institution’s legacy and sustain its tradition of excellence in girls’ education.The launch, held at the Wesley Towers in Accra, featured the unveiling of the school’s 190th anniversary logo and brought together government officials, old students, staff and development partners to celebrate nearly two centuries of educational excellence.Addressing the gathering, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang called for greater recognition of the often-overlooked contributions of women who work behind the scenes in schools.She said cooks, drivers, matrons and other support staff play an essential role in shaping students and should be appreciated alongside teachers and school administrators.The Vice President also urged Ghanaians to honour the pioneering women whose dedication helped establish and sustain institutions such as Wesley Girls over the years.Public Relations Officer of the Wesley Girls’ Old Girls Association (OGA), Joyce Meyers, appealed to alumni and corporate organisations to support the school’s continued development.She said institutions with enduring legacies thrive because successive generations choose to invest in and maintain them.Ms Meyers encouraged old girls and corporate partners to contribute towards infrastructure projects and other initiatives aimed at enhancing teaching and learning.Founded in 1836, Wesley Girls’ High School has grown into one of Ghana’s premier second-cycle institutions, producing distinguished women who have made significant contributions in public service, business, academia and other fields.Organisers say the year-long anniversary celebrations will feature activities to commemorate the school’s rich history, strengthen alumni engagement and mobilise resources to ensure Wesley Girls continues to inspire future generations.
