As Malta continues to swelter through soaring temperatures, the Civil Protection Department is urging the public to take extra care to help prevent outdoor fires.The warning comes after CPD crews responded to several grass and countryside fires in recent days, with firefighters battling blazes in extreme heat to protect lives, homes and Malta’s natural environment.With the risk of fires now significantly higher, the department is reminding people that small actions can make a huge difference.Among its key recommendations are never throwing cigarette butts from vehicles, avoiding leaving glass bottles or litter in the countryside, and refraining from lighting fires or burning garden waste, as flames can spread rapidly in the current conditions.Drivers are also being warned not to park on dry grass, since hot exhaust systems and catalytic converters can ignite vegetation.Landowners are encouraged to clear dry grass and overgrown vegetation where it is safe to do so, while anyone who spots smoke or fire should immediately call 112 and provide the exact location if possible.“Every preventable fire puts lives, property and the environment at risk,” the Civil Protection Department said, urging everyone to do their part to keep Malta safe during the ongoing heatwave.Share to raise awareness!Photo credits to Jonathan Joslin•
