Parts of Birkirkara, Balzan and Iklin have been hit by power cuts after four separate cable faults affected the electricity distribution network.Enemalta said the incidents were unrelated and occurred on different underground cables, with engineers and technical crews deployed immediately to carry out repairs and restore supply.To reduce disruption while repair works continue, the company is also using mobile generators to temporarily power affected substations. Once the damaged cables are repaired, the substations will be reconnected to the electricity grid and the generators removed.The outages come as Malta experiences an intense heatwave, with electricity demand expected to surpass the country’s previous all-time record of 663MW, set in 2023.Enemalta stressed that the interruptions are linked to faults on the distribution network, not a lack of electricity generation, adding that the country has sufficient generation capacity to meet current demand.The company also noted that Birkirkara, Balzan and Iklin are among the localities included in its ongoing multi-year investment programme aimed at strengthening the electricity network and improving its resilience as demand continues to grow.Enemalta said its crews remain focused on restoring power to all affected customers as quickly and safely as possible.Share with someone who lives in the area!•
