Jurassic Park: Survival (TBA) may have confirmed that a major franchise villain will return.Credit: Universal PicturesJurassic Park: Survival takes place 24 hours after the original 1993 film by Steven Spielberg, directly in the aftermath of the park’s collapse.Unfortunately, details for the first-person video game have been slim and infrequent to say the least, and even nearly three years after its announcement, there’s still no release date in sight. The first official trailer was shown at the Game Awards in December 2023. Then, six months later, in July 2024, IGN shared an exclusive Q&A with the developers, focusing on the gameplay.Credit: Universal City Studios LLC and Amblin Entertainment / Saber InteractiveAfter that, things went quiet for a full year, until Saber and Universal released a five-minute behind-the-scenes featurette that discussed the legacy of the original 1993 film, the dinosaur models, the lead character Dr. Maya Joshi (voiced and performed by Payal Mistry, who appears in the video), the environments, and how everything has been created just as it’s seen in the film.Joshi, an InGen scientist who has failed to evacuate the island, is the game’s lead protagonist. She must use intelligence, stealth, and all the resources available to outlast the island’s dinosaurs. However, while no other human characters have been confirmed, concept art from that video shows Joshi watching a dinosaur stampede next to a man who shares a striking resemblance to Lewis Dodgson. The shady Biosyn geneticist appears in the 1993 film, where he’s played by Cameron Thor, and later returned in Jurassic World Dominion (2022), where Campbell Scott took over the role.Related: ‘Jurassic Park’ “Part II” in the Works, as Universal Temporarily Drops ‘World’ BannerInterestingly, the official website for the game does state that “other surprising threats” are lurking on Isla Nublar in addition to dinosaurs like T. rex, Velociraptor, and Dilophosaurus.“Adventure through a fully realized Isla Nublar filled with reactive wildlife, dinosaurs, and other surprising threats. From the iconic towering park gates to the Visitor Center and beyond, Jurassic Park comes alive like never before.Storyboards seen in the BTS video also confirm that other humans will appear in the game.Dodgson originated in Michael Crichton’s original best-selling novel Jurassic Park (1990), and was the lead antagonist in its sequel, The Lost World (1995). He has also appeared in the animated Netflix series Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous (2020–2022) and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (2024–2025), where he’s he’s voiced by Adam Harrington.Whether he makes a full appearance in the new game remains to be seen, but looking at that concept art will undoubtedly have many fans shouting, “Dodgson! Dodgson! We’ve got Dodgson here!”Credit: Universal PicturesJurassic Park: Survival Is Coming SoonThe official synopsis for the game states:“Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making.
