Singer Jowy Landa (Joan Namugerwa) has defended Ugandan artists who frequently host TikTok Live sessions, saying they do so to remain relevant and maintain public attention in an increasingly competitive entertainment industry.Speaking in a recent interview, the singer noted that fame has become so widespread that almost everyone now considers themselves a public figure, making it even harder for musicians to stand out.Right now, everyone in Uganda is famous. So don’t blame artists for holding TikTok Lives—they need relevance. Artists are now so many that they’re almost outnumbering the fans. Everyone is a celebrity these days.Jowy explained that social media personalities are attracting just as much attention as musicians, forcing artists to constantly engage their audiences online.A TikToker can bypass you and you’ll hear people cheering them on, and you wonder how. It’s really tricky these days, so you shouldn’t blame artists for going live because they need talkability and relevance. She also expressed concern about the current state of Uganda’s music industry, saying even established musicians are struggling to make their songs resonate with audiences.Forever: Guvnor Ace’s New Song Rocking The AirwavesI don’t know what’s happening to the music these days. Top artists release songs, but they just hit the wall and bounce back. I don’t know what’s going on. Maybe the election season affected the industry. I encourage Ugandan artists to keep giving people good music because the industry isn’t doing well. I’ve released songs this year that deserved to perform better. Some have picked up, but many good songs haven’t.Despite the challenges, Jowy said she considers herself fortunate to still be receiving performance bookings, unlike many of her colleagues.“There are artists who aren’t getting booked at all. At least I’m among the lucky few who still have shows. In fact, I’m preparing for a performance in Europe. Some artists are paid as little as Shs200,000 even when they get gigs. That’s why you now see songs like the ‘Nassanga’ remix featuring 10 artists—it has become a way of helping each other survive.”Songstress @JowyLanda17 Blasts Ugandan Music Industry Over Lack Of Hit Songs! #JikonkoneRewind pic.twitter.com/Tpl0jG7soY— Galaxy TV Jikonkone (@GalaxyTVUg) July 16, 2026The post Jowy Landa defends artists using TikTok Live to stay relevant appeared first on MBU.
