Veteran Kadongo Kamu singer Fred Sebatta has opened up about how he adopted the title “Lord” as part of his stage name.Reflecting on its origin, Sebatta revealed that the nickname was coined by a group of associates with whom he often interacted. At the time, he frequently referred to himself as the “Star of Africa,” before one of them casually started calling him “Lord.”‘Lord’ came about because there was a clique of individuals I used to tell that I was the ‘Star of Africa.’ Then one of them simply decided to call me ‘Lord’.He later organized a show at Nakivubo Stadium, and all the promotional materials and announcements identified Fred Sebatta as “Lord Fred Sebatta” rather than “Star of Africa,” helping the title gain popularity among fans.Sebatta, however, admitted that there was a period when he felt uncomfortable carrying the title, especially during moments of prayer.He explained that kneeling before God while being referred to as “Lord” created an internal conflict, prompting him to consider dropping the nickname altogether.The singer even composed a song to distance himself from the title, hoping it would help people stop using it.
