More people are travelling between Malta and Gozo than they were a year ago, with the latest figures showing another busy quarter for both the ferry and fast ferry services.According to the National Statistics Office (NSO), passenger numbers on the Gozo Channel ferries increased by 5.7% during the second quarter of this year when compared to the same period last year. Vehicle traffic also rose by 2%, while the total number of ferry trips increased by 11.5%.The busiest days for travel also differed depending on the route.From Mġarr, vehicle traffic peaked on Sundays and Mondays, while the highest number of passengers travelled on Sundays and Saturdays. Meanwhile, departures from Ċirkewwa saw the most vehicles on Fridays and Saturdays, with passenger numbers also peaking over the weekend.The newly introduced fast ferry routes also continued to attract commuters and visitors, carrying 77,733 passengers during the quarter.The Sliema–Mġarr route proved the most popular, transporting 25,430 passengers, closely followed by the Mġarr–Sliema route with 24,755 passengers.The figures highlight the growing demand for sea transport between Malta and Gozo, particularly as the fast ferry network continues to expand its role in connecting the islands.What do you make of these statistics?•
