A speedboat operator has been fined after allegedly speeding dangerously through St Julian’s Bay, according to the Malta Ranger Unit.In a post on Facebook, the organisation said its Rangers were alerted to a speedboat travelling at high speed inside the bay, navigating among swimmers and moored vessels.The Malta Ranger Unit noted that St Julian’s Bay is home to several popular swimming zones and lies close to a conservation area, making reckless navigation particularly dangerous. In an update, the Malta Ranger Unit said it has requested further information from Transport Malta regarding the amount of the fine.The organisation also reminded boaters that, under the Notice to Mariners, vessels must not exceed 10 knots within 200 metres of the rocky shoreline, while the speed limit inside mooring areas is 3 knots.While welcoming the enforcement action, the Malta Ranger Unit reiterated its concerns over what it described as a lack of enforcement at sea.“Let’s not wait for someone to die,” the organisation said, stressing that behaviour which endangers the lives of swimmers and other sea users is unacceptable.Video credits to Malta Ranger Unit•
