Modern Warfare 4’s ever-evolving Kill Block map contains over 500 possible variations at launch

Public Modern Warfare 4 gameplay is about to hit the airwaves this week since the game is being featured at Fanatics Fest in New York City, and the main focal point of it is a new experience called Kill Block. This new map/mode combines pieces from a number of maps across Call of Duty’s history to create a game type that evolves with each round. It supports the popular Gunfight mode in three-vs-three or 10-vs-10 formats, and was a ton of fun when I played it a few months ago. Image via Activision “At its core, Kill Block is assembled from three modular sections — two outer areas (‘End Slabs’) and one central combat space (‘Central Slab’) — that combine into a new combat configuration after each match called a ‘Combo,'” Infinity Ward explained. “Each section and how they are positioned allows for multiple possible Combo variants, creating hundreds of unique layout combinations that reshape combat flow.” While “most map sections are entirely new, while others draw inspiration from iconic locations across Modern Warfare history,” such as Crash from way back in CoD 4, MW2’s Highrise, Warzone’s Storage Town POI, and Shoot House from Modern Warfare 2019. Activision teased that when MW4 launches on Oct. 23, “more than 500 configurations are possible, with layouts reconfiguring between matches and throughout Gunfight rounds to transform sightlines, routes, cover placement, and engagement pacing.” When each round in Gunfight (a mode where players all spawn in with the same unique loadout and no respawns) has a chance to be a totally different Combo of Slabs, it makes it so that each round feels truly different from the last. I played Kill Block at Infinity Ward’s HQ back in May, and it was the favorite mode I played that day. I’m also going to be trying it out again this week during Fanatics Fest, where CoD and MW4 are set to have a large-scale presence, including public hands-on gameplay, a panel, a one-vs-one showdown between NBA Champion New York Knicks Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, and more.0The post Modern Warfare 4’s ever-evolving Kill Block map contains over 500 possible variations at launch appeared first on Destructoid.
