Walt Disney World Resort has revealed the replacement for an area of Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park that has been in limbo for a long time. Here’s what Central Florida Disney Park guests need to know.Tomorrowland Area Replacement at Magic Kingdom ParkCredit: Disney DiningOn July 13, Walt Disney World Resort guests arrived in Tomorrowland to find a newly rethemed character meet-and-greet area near Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. The spot was once home to a Buzz Lightyear-themed backdrop and a platform where character performers stamped guests’ autograph books (toys don’t know how to write, after all!).Buzz Lightyear has not greeted guests in the area for a while, and the platform was removed long ago. As of Monday, the intergalactic backdrop now features more generic Tomorrowland theming. WDW News Today shared this photo of the character meet-and-greet location on Facebook:The LED sign that once said “SPACE RANGER MAP” remains in the meet-and-greet area, but was turned off at the time it was photographed. The toy-like faux-button decals and battery-inspired flooring tiles have been removed, and all other frames and details have been painted blue or silver. The backdrop is still intergalactic, but looks more generic than its Toy Story (1995)-inspired predecessor.Credit: Brittany DiCologero, Inside the MagicA second meet-and-greet location in the area is a more generic silver garage door, and that spot has not been updated with the new Tomorrowland theming. It’s unclear if Walt Disney World Resort plans to replicate the new design in that area.Stitch and Chip & Dale are the characters that most frequently meet Magic Kingdom Park guests in these Tomorrowland locations. On Monday, Disney finally removed the last remaining decorative tower from 1994 from the area. The park recently debuted the updated version of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, while Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is currently closed for its own modernization. Days ago, rumors emerged suggesting that Disney may announce an overhaul of Space Mountain at the upcoming D23 Expo.Who is your favorite character to meet at Walt Disney World Resort?
