Renewed US-Iran clashes continue for fourth night in a row, with Tehran claiming it struck American bases in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman.By World Israel News StaffThe United States carried out another wave of strikes against Iran overnight between Sunday and Monday, targeting air defenses, coastal surveillance systems and missile and drone facilities as a confrontation over commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz widened across the Middle East.Iran responded by launching missiles and drones toward American military facilities in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman, raising fears that a fragile US-Iran agreement could collapse into renewed full-scale war.US Central Command said American forces struck dozens of Iranian military targets at several locations using fighter aircraft, naval vessels and aerial and maritime attack drones. The targets included air-defense systems, coastal radar installations, missile and drone capabilities and small military boats.“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” CENTCOM said. “Iran does not control it.”The strikes followed additional Iranian attacks on commercial shipping using a route near Oman that the United States says remains open to international traffic.Washington and Tehran have issued competing claims over control of the strait, the narrow entrance to the Persian Gulf through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s traded oil and liquefied natural gas passed before the war.Iran says vessels must obtain its authorization before traveling through the waterway. The United States rejects that claim and has helped commercial ships use a southern route closer to Oman and farther from Iran’s coastline.Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said its latest retaliatory operation targeted Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain and the Ali Al Salem and Ahmad al-Jaber air bases in Kuwait. The IRGC claimed it struck fuel tanks, ammunition storage facilities, radar systems and other American military infrastructure. Those claims could not immediately be independently verified.Jordan’s military said it intercepted four Iranian missiles after they entered Jordanian airspace. It reported no casualties or material damage.Missile-warning sirens were also activated in Bahrain, which hosts the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet. Kuwaiti authorities said they were intercepting hostile projectiles, although neither Bahrain nor Kuwait immediately reported the full extent of any damage.Iran also claimed to have attacked American-linked facilities in Oman, whose territorial waters form the southern side of the Strait of Hormuz. Oman, which has frequently served as an intermediary between Iran and Western governments, summoned an Iranian diplomat to protest earlier attacks.Tehran has warned that any location used to launch attacks against Iran will be considered a legitimate target. The Iranian Foreign Ministry accused Washington of violating nearly every provision of the memorandum of understanding signed in June and committing “war crimes” by attacking Iranian infrastructure and vessels.Iranian officials said regular shipping through the strait would not resume while the United States continued military operations there. The Revolutionary Guards warned that continued American involvement “could lead to greater incidents in the global oil and gas sector.”President Donald Trump, however, has indicated that the United States intends to continue applying military pressure.Asked about the strikes in a brief telephone interview, Trump said, “We’re beating them up.”The latest American operation followed several previous rounds of attacks during the past week. CENTCOM said Saturday that it had struck approximately 140 targets in one operation and more than 300 Iranian targets over three nights. The earlier targets included missile and drone launch sites, ammunition-storage facilities, communication networks, surveillance installations and Iranian naval assets. The fighting has centered on Iranian attempts to stop or control commercial traffic passing through the strait.Iran said it closed the waterway after firing at vessels traveling along routes it had not approved. American officials maintain that ships are continuing to travel through a southern corridor under US protection, although maritime tracking data has shown sharply reduced traffic. The dispute has threatened an interim agreement signed last month that was intended to reopen the strait, extend a ceasefire and provide 60 days for negotiations toward a permanent end to the war.Instead, the agreement has been followed by repeated Iranian attacks on commercial vessels and successive American strikes against Iranian military sites.Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, one of Tehran’s leading negotiators, accused Washington of failing to honor the agreement and warned that Iran would not accept what it considered an unequal arrangement.Trump has said in recent days that he views the ceasefire as effectively over, although he has not ruled out further negotiations. The renewed fighting has also affected international markets. Brent crude rose more than 4% Monday as traders reacted to the risk of prolonged disruption to oil exports from the Persian Gulf.Israel has so far remained outside the latest round of fighting, despite having joined the United States in launching the war against Iran on February 28.The post US strikes Iran as Tehran targets US bases across Mideast as standoff continues appeared first on World Israel News.
