Convicted hitman Vince Muscat, known as Il-Koħħu, has told jurors that an alleged plot to kill Daphne Caruana Galizia was already being discussed in 2015.Testifying on day 11 of Yorgen Fenech’s trial by jury, Muscat claimed that fellow hitman George Degiorgio told him: “Chris Cardona wanted us to get rid of Daphne Caruana Galizia.”Muscat alleged that Degiorgio asked him to drive him to Portomaso for a meeting with former minister Chris Cardona before later telling him that four people wanted the journalist killed and that they were seeking €150,000 for the job.According to Muscat, the original plan was to stop Caruana Galizia as she drove out of her Bidnija home before Jamie Vella allegedly shot her.He told the court that he and George Degiorgio spent two days carrying out surveillance near the Caruana Galizia family home but never saw Daphne.Muscat further claimed the plan was abandoned because an alleged €50,000 deposit never arrived. The allegations were made by Muscat while giving evidence under oath and have not been determined by the court. Yorgen Fenech has pleaded not guilty to charges that he masterminded Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination.Lovin Malta is reporting live from the courtroom and will continue to bring you the latest updates.•
