Malta has ranked fifth in Europe for access to safe public drinking water, achieving a 100% score in the European Water Services 2026 report.According to data highlighted by Sostenibilità, Malta joins countries including Spain, Italy, Cyprus and Germany in recording full public access to drinking water. The recognition comes after the launch of the government’s ‘Iftaħ u Ixrob’ initiative last year, which aimed to encourage more people to drink tap water instead of relying on bottled water.Launched by Environment and Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, the campaign introduced activated carbon filters to improve the taste and quality of tap water across Malta and Gozo. The initiative forms part of wider efforts to promote sustainable water consumption while reducing plastic waste generated by bottled water. What do you make of this?•
