Screenshot: KALB 5The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed Monday that a Deputy U.S. Marshal assigned to the Western District of Louisiana was shot and killed while serving an arrest warrant on a fugitive in Alexandria.The shooting occurred at approximately 3 p.m. during a joint law enforcement operation involving members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force and detectives from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.Authorities were attempting to apprehend a wanted fugitive in the Rutland Road area when gunfire erupted.The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed that a deputy assigned to the Western District of Louisiana was killed in the line of duty. The FBI is now leading the investigation into an assault on a federal officer. Louisiana State Police is also investigating potential violations of state law. The subject, now under investigation, was taken into custody and there is no ongoing threat to the public. One resident, who asked not to be identified, said she heard multiple gunshots and immediately moved to protect her children.“I just kept telling them, just get down. I had them in the room, down.
