Oliver Glasner believes that consistency is key to enjoying success in the Premier League, something he plans to achieve in his new role at Nottingham Forest. Glasner was appointed as Forest's new head coach last month following the surprise departure of Vitor Pereira, who ensured the club retained their top-flight status in 2025-26. The former Crystal Palace boss, who won the FA Cup and Conference League during his time at Selhurst Park, is Forest's fifth managerial change in the space of a year. Forest finished 16th in the Premier League last season, one campaign on from securing seventh in the top flight and returning to the European stage. During their Europa League campaign, they reached the semi-finals before being dumped out by eventual winners Aston Villa, though Glasner believes Forest's priorities lie away from Europe, instead placing focus on their Premier League form."It's a great feeling and very exciting, and it's my first time at the City Ground properly," Glasner said. "I've been here in the Premier League as an away manager, of course, and the atmosphere has always been brilliant, so I'm really looking forward to taking charge of Forest here."I thought about the project and when I had talks with the owner, it was one of the topics."Two-time European champions, it was a while ago, but history stays forever, as do the memories."This is a traditional club with a fantastic fanbase and a very ambitious owner that wants to take a step forward."The squad is very interesting as well, so those were the main reasons for me wanting to join Nottingham Forest."The club is already on a good run since promotion a few years ago and playing in the semi-final of the Europa League."It's important now to get some consistency and battle regularly for the top half of the league.Oliver Glasner. pic.twitter.com/7cbT2pDyPU— Nottingham Forest (@NFFC) July 13, 2026"We know how competitive the Premier League is. It's one thing to talk about, but it's something else to deliver, but that is what we'll start on now."We'll create a way of playing, an identity and how we want to deal with each other, which I think is important for the spirit and togetherness in the club and with the fans."Glasner's move to the City Ground comes as something of a surprise, given the tensions that developed between Palace and Forest last season, with the Eagles being removed from the Europa League over a breach of multi-club ownership rules after owner Evangelos Marinakis called for their ejection.Apart from their impressive season in 2024-25, Forest have flirted with relegation since being promoted from the Championship four years ago. They have finished 16th twice (2022-23 and 2025-26) and 17th (2023-24), and Glasner stressed the importance of Forest's staff as being key to success. "For me, it's very important that it's exciting and challenging. I really believe that us all together; the staff, the players, the fans, the leadership of the club, we can be really competitive in the Premier League, which makes me excited," Glasner added. "There's no button to press that automatically makes it happen. It's a daily thing that will take progress over the coming weeks, which is what we have started."The people are what is most important and that's what gives me a lot of confidence for this project. I've met great people; you can have the best stadium, the best training ground, but if you don't have the right people, it doesn't work."Now we have to find the way that is best to work together. It's not just work for me, it's my life."Glasner's first Premier League game in charge of Forest will be at home to Leeds United on August 22, while he will face a return to Selhurst Park against Palace in October.
