Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced a €20,000 donation from the Social Causes Fund to Id-Dar tal-Providenza during the opening of the 16th edition of the BOV Volleyball Marathon.Speaking at the event, Abela praised the spirit of volunteering and solidarity shown by the Maltese and Gozitan people, thanking the players, volunteers, staff and organisers for their commitment to the annual fundraiser.The Prime Minister also highlighted the Personal Autonomy Act and the Protection of Vulnerable Adults Act, which came into force on Friday, describing them as important milestones towards a more inclusive society. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)The marathon, which was officially inaugurated by President Myriam Spiteri Debono at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta’ Qali, sees 40 players take on the challenge of playing volleyball continuously for 53 hours to raise funds for Id-Dar tal-Providenza.Addressing those present, President Spiteri Debono described the marathon as a celebration of resilience, endurance and generosity, saying Id-Dar tal-Providenza continues to play a vital role in supporting some of Malta’s most vulnerable people.Meanwhile, Id-Dar tal-Providenza director Mgr Martin Micallef thanked everyone involved in organising the event and appealed for continued public support, noting that the Home requires around €8 million annually to continue providing its services.The marathon, which runs until Saturday evening, also features live entertainment, a charity 5K run, children’s activities, a food court, a DJ takeover and an art exhibition, with proceedings being broadcast live on Malta’s main television stations.What do you make of this donation?Media credits to @robertabela.mt•
