The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) has welcomed enforcement action taken against operators found to be breaching regulations governing short-term rental accommodation in Swieqi.The association praised the action by the Ministry for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), saying it sends a clear message that tourism regulations must be respected by everyone.According to the MHRA, effective enforcement not only protects residents and Malta’s reputation as a tourism destination, but also ensures a level playing field for operators who comply with the law.The association said the Swieqi operation should now serve as a model for other tourism hotspots across Malta and Gozo, calling for stronger collaboration between authorities responsible for tourism, enforcement, transport, planning, local government, public cleansing and public safety.MHRA also urged the authorities to continue carrying out consistent, transparent and impartial enforcement across all tourism zones as part of efforts to improve residents’ quality of life while maintaining Malta’s competitiveness as a high-quality destination.•
