MURALI KUMARThe State government is formulating a plan to redevelop the Kantirava Stadium in Bengaluru at a cost of ₹5,000 crore under Public Private Partnership model, according to Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara.Dr. Parameshwara, who also holds Sports and Youth Empowerment portfolio, told a press conference here on Thursday that clearance from the State Cabinet would be obtained for the plan soon.Listing various programmes being planned in the department, he said the State was set to hold an international youth festival for the first time in its history. The proposed festival would be held some time in December, January or February, he said.Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had given permission to hold the festival in which youth from various States would participate. This would turn out to be a forum for exchange of culture and issues related to sports, Dr. Parameshwara said.Pointing out that about 65% of the State’s population was under 35 years of age, he said the Sports Department had taken up various programmes aimed at this age group.
