GTA 6’s unbelieveable sales data could signal a $5 billion opening week amid ‘strongest pre-order campaign on record’

Wait 5 sec.

As GTA 6‘s release grows ever more imminent, we’re getting wind of just how much money it’s already made and how much it stands to earn yet, with analysts now predicting that GTA 6 could rake in over $4 billion in just its first week, setting by far the biggest earning record for any piece of media in human history. That is according to Newzoo, whose new insights report claims GTA 6 already earned Rockstar and Take-Two over $180 million from pre-orders, and that’s just in the United States and the five biggest European markets (Germany, Spain, Italy, France, and the UK). Globally, this goes up to $260 million based on comparative GTA 5 numbers, though it could be a lot more. The cash is guaranteed to come flowing in the billions. Image via Rockstar Games If it stays on track, and it almost certainly will, Newzoo predicts GTA 6 could total over $5.2 billion in total sales by the end of its first week on the market, with over $4 billion of that being launch-week copies. Newzoo explains its prediction using three clusters, i.e., three patterns that most major releases seem to share. These are new IPs that tend to be slow on the pre-order but grow massively once reviews start coming out, sequels that don’t quite build on top of their predecessor, and the proven sequel, which is best described as an annual release with a stable, ready audience every year. GTA 6 doesn’t belong in any of the clusters, as Newzoo explains, but it’ll probably follow a curve similar to the proven sequel, meaning it’ll likely earn over $4.5 billion from copies sold during its launch week. No matter what happens, though, GTA 6 will be the best-selling game of all time and the most profitable piece of entertainment in history, much like GTA 5 was before it. There’s genuinely no doubt in my mind about that, no matter what I think of the franchise. And even Newzoo said as much, describing its pre-orders as the “strongest pre-order campaign on record.” 0The post GTA 6’s unbelieveable sales data could signal a $5 billion opening week amid ‘strongest pre-order campaign on record’ appeared first on Destructoid.
