J.J. Watt took to social media to defend wife Kealia after she was ‘disrespected’ in a social media post from Real Salt Lake. The Major League Soccer club hosted EFL Championship side Burnley for a preseason friendly on Wednesday night.Watt took aim at RSL after a social media post that failed to mention wife KealiaGettyJ.J. and Kealia are minority owners of the English team, and were in attendance for the game in Utah.Ahead of kick-off, RSL shared a picture of the NFL legend walking out the tunnel at America First Field, hand-in-hand with Kealia and their son.The post was captioned: “Welcome to the Riot, J.J. Watt and fam.”Watt took issue with the message, and questioned why Kealia wasn’t worthy of a mention, or tag.J.J. Watt hits out at RSL social media post“The woman in the photo grew up literally down the road, won 4 Utah state championships (1 in this exact stadium), Gatorade Player of the Year twice, National Player of the Year, scored the fastest first goal in USWNT history…” he posted.“Could probably be worth a mention, but idk.”As J.J. points out, Kealia has quite the resume.Born in Draper, Utah, just 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, she played youth soccer with Utah Avalanche. With the team, where she played from the U-11 level to college, Kealia won four state titles. She also won the Utah state championship during all four years of high school, and played for the United States national youth programs from the age of 13.Kealia won the U-20 Women’s World Cup with the United StatesGettyShe went on to star for Houston in the NWSLGettyAt U-20 level, the forward won the Women’s World Cup and scored the game-winning goal in the 44th minute of the final.Kealia was also a four-year starter with the North Carolina Tar Heels, and established herself as one of the standout college players during her time at Chapel Hill. She was a member of the 2012 championship-winning team before being selected as the second overall pick of the 2014 NWSL College Draft by the Houston Dash.Kealia was the expansion team’s very first college draft pick, and quickly became a key player, taking the captain’s armband midway through 2016.Across six seasons with the team, she made 114 appearances and scored 28 goals, before being traded to the Chicago Red Stars in 2020.Kealia finished her career in the Windy City, and has since gone on to become an analyst for Amazon Prime Video’s NWSL broadcasts.Kealia’s soccer career concluded in ChicagoGettyAfter Watt called out RSL for their post on Thursday, his replies were flooded with fans questioning exactly why Kealia was ‘disrespected’.Fans side with J.J. Watt after tweet from MLS club“Justice for Kealia!” one posted.“Bravo sir. Hell of a career and accomplishments for Kealia,” another responded.“Classic Utah disrespect,” a third said. Both J.J. and Kealia are minority owners in English side BurnleyGetty“Wow J.J. Knew she was good, didn’t know she was that good. Very impressive!” a fourth wrote.“MLS can’t do anything correctly,” a fifth concluded. While J.J. and Kealia had the chance to walk the tunnel at America First Field, it’s probably fair to say the Burnley investors didn’t enjoy much of what unfolded after. The club’s pre-season US tour ended with a 4-1 defeat to their MLS opposition.Burnley were beaten in preseason by Salt Lake on WednesdayGettySalt Lake striker Sergi Solans opened the scoring for the home side, before Florentino scored his first Burnley goal 10 minutes into the second-half.The MLS outfit quickly regained their lead through Zavier Gozo, before Solans netted his second of the evening.USMNT international Diego Luna wrapped up the game from the penalty spot.Stay up to date on all things NFL across our talkSPORT platforms – subscribe to our YouTube channel for the latest news, opinion, exclusive interviews and our daily unfiltered, unscripted show ‘The S* Word, from 8am ET.
