According to a report by Steve Anderson in the Daily Racing Form, 2025 GI Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Bentornato (Valiant Minister) has suffered a sesamoid injury and is not expected to race again this year. Trainer Jose D'Angelo told the DRF that his sprint star is expected to return to racing in 2027 as a 6-year-old.Bentornato breezed a half-mile at Saratoga July 4. The injury was detected “a few days ago,” D'Angelo said.D'Angelo said that Bentornato will be “outside the track for a couple of months. He's got a small sesamoid fracture. The doctor said he has a good prognosis.”In his most recent start, Bentornato finished second behind Book'em Danno (Bucchero) in the GIII True North Stakes at Saratoga on June 6. In his only other start this year, he was second in the GI Golden Shaheen Sprint in Dubai.His is owned by Leon King Stable and TCC Stable and has won seven of 13 starts while earning $2,802,180.
