The Swieqi Local Council has formally invited Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition Leader Alex Borg to visit the locality and meet with residents to witness first-hand the challenges they say are impacting their daily lives. In a letter signed by Mayor Noel Muscat, the Council said the visits would provide an opportunity for Malta’s political leaders to observe issues including the uncontrolled operation of short-let accommodation, excessive noise, vandalism, illegal waste disposal, inappropriate public behaviour and dress, and non-compliance with regulations.According to the Council, a substantial number of complaints have been received from residents in recent months, prompting calls for both the Government and Opposition to hear directly from those affected. The Council has proposed that the visits take place as soon as possible, while the issues remain “at their most evident”, arguing that discussions should be based on the reality experienced by residents rather than solely on reports or statistics. The Swieqi Local Council said it hopes the invitation will lead to constructive dialogue and practical solutions that balance economic activity with residents’ quality of life.Do you think this could improve the situation?•
