Two starts removed from having won his maiden at career start number five and exiting a 10 1/4-length romp in the June 13 Pegasus Stakes, BABY VINO (c, 3, Vino Rosso–Discreetly Grand, by Discreetly Mine) made a middle move to challenge GI Preakness Stakes hero Napoleon Solo (Liam's Map), then got the better of a ding-dong stretch battle to take out Saturday's GI NYRABets Haskell Stakes at odds of 28-1. The victory earns the colt an all-expenses-paid trip to the GI Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland on Halloween.Settled back in the pack as Napoleon Solo made the running well off the inside part of the rain-affected main track in advance of favored 'TDN Rising Star' presented by Hagyard Further Ado (Gun Runner), Baby Vino was given his cue with about a half-mile to race and skimmed the rail to race just to the inside of the 7-2 pacesetter approaching the second turn.Able to sustain that momentum, Baby Vino and Napoleon Solo raced shoulder-to-shoulder into the final furlong as the other chief protagonists were struggling to make any inroads. Napoleon Solo had every chance to outfinish his lesser-regarded rival, but Baby Vino gutted it out and was home first.
