/u/Inevitable-Trade-962 on If you are going to donate to someone on Go Fund Me, do you research for the validity of their request? Or just blindly donate?

Wait 5 sec.

That’s really unfortunate, but I’m not sure how that’s GoFundMe’s fault. From what I understand from your story, the donors gave to the intended fundraiser, and the intended family received the money. How could GoFundMe or any charitable fundraising platform have realistically prevented what happened after the funds were distributed to the correct party? I’ve been going down a bit of a GoFundMe rabbit hole on Reddit, and while there are certainly edge cases where things go wrong, I keep finding far more stories about people whose lives were genuinely changed during unfortunate times in their life for the better because of the platform. Once funds have been legitimately donated and paid out to the intended recipient, there’s only so much a platform can control. Please correct me if I am wrong.
