/u/threecuttlefish on Come remove this hornets nest from my house for free. You can have the nest for…uh…decoration, I guess?

Wait 5 sec.

I understand why people dislike them and don't object to other people killing them when they're nesting in inconvenient places. I just personally don't want to unless I have no other option. Wasps don't have intent and can't be "mean", they're just instinctive little animals who have a broad perception of "threat" (although given how many things eat or swat them, I can kind of understand the sting first attitude). I FULLY recognize that my personal feelings about wasps are unusual. But I've only ever been stung when I stepped in a nest, and if I give them their own tiny snack when I'm eating outside they leave mine alone. I think they're interesting little critters. Which is part of why I would use an abandoned paper wasp nest as decor - they're incredible examples of natural engineering! Again, I know I'm the weird entomology nerd who likes paper wasps.
