Cleveland tow truck driver puts his warning lights on and pulls over. Instead of slowing down, one driver has a ‘GTA’ moment

Wait 5 sec.

Working as a tow truck operator is a high-stakes job, and one incident at New Year’s had painted just how dangerous it can get. Arslan Khan, a tow operator based in Cleveland, Ohio, recently shared footage from his vehicle and body camera on Instagram and TikTok that captured the moment. While helping a vehicle that had called for help, a passing car crashed after running into his truck. Miraculously, everyone walked away without a scratch.  Arslan was out to help a red car. Even with a flurry of snow and it being dark, he noted in the caption that visibility was good. Additionally, he had his amber hazard lights flashing to warn oncoming traffic, but the drivers were still racing past. He then called 911. “I’m here to get a vehicle that’s stranded in the ditch. A lot of people are not really slowing down, so I think some coverage would be a good idea here.” Arslan had parked as far over as he could. However, without a shoulder to park on, his truck still occupied a portion of the road. As he attached cables to the red car, vehicles, including a 16-wheeler raced past. Then he quickly backed away when he saw a car speeding. That white car careened into the ramp of his truck, flipped, and crashed, rolling down the road. The footage and sound is jarring, leading Arslan to describe it as, “Bro, that was GTA in real life, bruh.” The video included a GTA banner declaring “Stunt jump failed” Arslan immediately checked on the driver of the flipped vehicle, who appeared to be fine. When the police arrived on the scene, they were surprised to learn that Arslan had captured the entire event on the truck’s cameras. He told the officer, “I call you guys, and then of course, the rush dies down, and here comes jacka–. One wheel on the bed, bro.” The incident has sparked a massive conversation online, with millions of views across the platforms. One user commented, “i seriously dont get why nobody would slow down like you see why the truck is there u wanna be next.” Another echoed this sentiment, “Common sense and anyone who didnt get their license out of a cereal box knows to slow down and move over for flashing lights!” One even posited that the careless driver must have been “Texting and driving.”  View this post on Instagram One commenter shared a personal story, highlighting just how dangerous things could have been. They wrote, “this. this is how my brother got killed. he was a tow truck operator and a drunk driver ran up the bed while he was loading a vehicle at night and killed him. SLOW DOWN MOVE OVER.” It’s a sobering reminder that a tow truck’s hazard lights are not just suggestions. According to the National Traffic Safety Administration, all 50 states have Move Over laws in place to protect those working on the side of the road. While all states require drivers to move over or slow down for emergency vehicles with flashing lights, 19 states and Washington, DC, have expanded these protections to include all vehicles with flashing or hazard lights.  Per the site, this includes tow trucks, highway maintenance, and disabled vehicles. The law is clear: when you see flashing lights, you must change into a lane not immediately adjacent to the vehicle, or slow down to a reasonable speed if you cannot safely move over. Failing to do so can lead to heavy fines or even jail time. @happyh00ker216 PART 2 this is a WILD glimpse into how QUICKLY things can go bad on the roadside #fyp #fypシ゚viral #fypシ #towing #happyhook ♬ original sound – happyh00ker216 – happyh00ker216 For Arslan, the experience was jarring. As he told the driver of the red car in the second video, “What a New Year’s. Holy sh-t.” He also admitted to the responding firefighters, “I froze up, man. I got to be quicker than that.” Earlier in the video, as he was talking to the police, he told the officer, “Man, my heart’s pounding, dude!” The officer agreed, saying the one this that was clearly on Arslan’s mind, that atleast he had been standing away, and wasn’t by the truck. As for the driver, one viewer made a observation that should resonate with all drivers. They noted, “This guy just learned the world’s most expensive and dangerous lesson: always, ALWAYS pay attention while driving, especially on the highway.”  The footage clearly shows that Arslan was not the only lucky one, the driver was too. In fact, just a month before this incident, there were two other high profile accidents where people made surprising escapes. In California, a teen’s gas-powered bike burst into flames after he wrecked it, and he escaped with just one small injury. That same month, a driver caused a school bus full of children to flip onto its roof. While the children were safe, the driver fled the scene.
