As thousands of football fans tuned in for the FIFA World Cup final, several localities across Malta were hit by electricity outages this evening.Enemalta’s live outage map showed multiple high-tension faults affecting different parts of the island, with areas including Birkirkara, Iklin and San Ġwann, Mellieħa and St Paul’s Bay, and Marsascala, Marsaxlokk and Żejtun listed as impacted.Screenshots taken from Enemalta’s outage map at around 10.35pm also showed separate high-tension outages clustered around central and northern Malta, while another affected parts of the south-east.The outages came as many households were watching the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, prompting frustration from residents who suddenly found themselves without electricity during one of the biggest sporting events of the year.Enemalta’s live map said crews were working to restore supply and noted that both planned and unplanned outages are displayed on the service.The latest disruptions follow a string of electricity faults reported across Malta in recent days as the islands continue to experience exceptionally high temperatures.
