I adopted a puppy (Kane) almost a year ago, and hours after I got him home he started getting sick. The place I adopted him from was 3.5 hours away, and they basically said it was all on me. It was on a Sunday. By Monday morning, my other dog was starting to get sick, and Kane was very sick. The vet got him in immediately, and he tested positive for 2 parasites (giardia and another one I can never remember) and worms. All together, both dog's treatment came out to around $1k. I was able to pay it only because I had a credit card (with zero interest for a year) I was able to put it on. Is that something you can do? Do you have good credit and can apply for something? I know it's not the best option out there, but it's something you can do. I worked overtime and was able to pay it off pretty quickly, and now both dogs have insurance.
