A frequent flyer named Kate recently shared a chilling travel experience that has left the internet questioning the reality of her four-hour flight. After sitting next to a peculiar man on a departure out of Denver International Airport, she was shocked when the passenger in the window seat claimed the middle seat had been empty the entire time. According to TikTok creator Ashlee, who shared the story on her Spooky Story Time series, the encounter began while Kate was walking toward her gate. She spotted a man standing motionless after passing by one of the airport’s infamous murals, “staring directly at it” and watching people pass by. She noted that while most airport travelers move quickly, “this man was just standing still” without a phone or luggage. Minutes later, the same man boarded the plane and took the middle seat beside her. He carried no bags and wore no headphones, spending the flight behaving in ways that Kate found deeply unsettling. The stranger seemed to be learning how to be human Throughout the flight, the man acted as if he had never experienced basic human concepts or air travel. When the flight attendants performed their safety demonstration, Kate noticed he was “watching their demonstration very intently, like he was completely transfixed.” She said his confusion became even more obvious when he “would copy their movements” a few seconds later, as if he were practicing the actions for the first time. His unfamiliarity with the world extended to the environment outside the aircraft. He asked Kate strange questions, such as, “What are clouds made of?” and later asked, “Are you afraid of the sky?” while pointing upward. When sunlight hit his hand, he marveled at the sensation, telling her, “It’s warm. I didn’t expect it to be this beautiful.” Throughout these interactions, the man remained “very rigid,” never reclining his seat or even blinking for long stretches of time. @ashleeinc Kate says she’s used to flying for work and it’s typically uneventful — but a few years ago, flying out of DIA, she sat next to a strange passenger. Kate stood in the aisle, momentarily blocking her row, and turned to say a polite goodbye to her seatmate. He was gone. The only person remaining in her row was the woman who had been seated by the window. When Kate asked how the man had managed to slip past her without being seen, the woman looked at her with genuine confusion and stated, “Honey, there was nobody sitting next to us.” Kate said she has “no history of mental illness,” and remains baffled by the event. Whether it was a vivid hallucination brought on by exhaustion or something that cannot be explained, she continues to fly out of the same airport.
