Kampala International University (KIU) students gave the new semester a loud welcome on Saturday, October 3, as the KIU Freshers Ball took over Garden Light Cafe on Ggaba Road with Smirnoff as the headline partner. The venue filled up steadily from early evening. Freshers and continuing students mingled at the entrance, where a colourful Smirnoff setup offered photo spots, party games and a taste of the brand’s range of flavours.MC Ursh Trey set the pace early and barely let the energy dip. Ri Deejay and City Girl then took over the decks and kept the dance floor busy as the night built. Viana Indi added a competitive edge, calling students out to show off their best moves. One of the standout sets came from DJ Alisha, who moved between the decks and her own signature dance routines while serving a mix of amapiano hits and afro bangers. Dreadlazer followed with a cross-generational selection that had older and newer hits trading places, with something for almost everyone in the crowd.By the time Wiz J stepped up alongside MC Saint Trevor, the party was at full throttle. The pair closed out the night to a crowd still asking for more.Smirnoff Brand Manager Raymond Karama said the Ggaba Road stop delivered exactly the energy the brand had hoped for.“We brought a flavourful lineup of drinks and DJs to give that perfect semester icebreaker with Smirnoff Ice, and Ggaba Road has been great. Looking forward to what comes next,” Karama said.Judging by the crowd, the semester could hardly have asked for a louder start, and the KIU ball has set a high bar for the campus party season ahead.Next stopsThe Smirnoff campus tour rolls on through October:DateUniversityVenueOctober 8Uganda Christian University (UCU), MukonoThe John’s HostelOctober 10Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST)University Inn, MbararaOctober 31Kyambogo University (Halloween edition)Servite Hostel, KyambogoSmirnoff.
