MeshMill: an open-source desktop tool for reducing dense STL geometry

Wait 5 sec.

I built MeshMill because scanned and reconstructed meshes often become too heavy for practical editing. My workflow needed a fast way to inspect density, isolate regions, reduce geometry, compare the result, and preserve dimensions. MeshMill runs locally and does not require an account or upload. The Windows release includes an installer, portable package, and CLI. Current tools include four display modes, regional cropping, deletion and optimization, multiple reduction algorithms, provisional comparisons, undo and redo, measurements, and large-file memory preflight. I have been testing it against a composite 4.1-million-triangle scan with intentionally redundant layers and uneven density. That original sample and a smaller version are included so the reduction algorithms can be reproduced and compared. GPL-3.0 source and downloads: https://github.com/make-your-own-world-project/MeshMill I’m the developer. I’d particularly appreciate feedback on scan cleanup workflows, reduction quality, and files that expose edge cases. submitted by /u/Zestyclose-Lead4345 to r/3DPrintingTools [link] [comments]
