Pregnant on a PCU unit and have no mom, could use some advice and maybe some love

Wait 5 sec.

Hi everyone! I love this subreddit so much. I have been a nurse for 1 year 3 months on a PCU unit. We take drips, precedex, strokes, alcohol withdrawal, and PEC/CEC patients. I recently found out I am 5 weeks 2 days pregnant with my second baby. I told my manager and my charge nurses of course just so they are aware but I have been struggling a lot recently. Some information about our unit is we are now pretty critically short, I work night-shift and we have finally gotten in some agency nurses for help. Our manager however, came out and stated that our staff nurses are the only ones who can chart/take PEC/CEC patients. The other day I had 3, two fairly pleasant and one 6'3 320 pound man who was hallucinating and kicked my PCT/sitter in the face and had to go to ICU for four points and a precedex drip. I just feel like our unit, especially our telemetry side has changed so much. (we have two sides to the unit and telemetry is a little softer with acuity usually) we went from a lot of cardiac issues to altered mental status, PEC/CEC patients, elopement risks, ect. I guess I just need a place to vent, my mom passed about 9 years ago so I don't really have anyone to share the pregnancy news with besides my husband and I am so nervous about working this floor pregnant. I have applied internally to L&D, and postpartum because I genuinely am interested in women's health and am trying to step away from the stress of our unit. I guess for anyone out there reading all my ramblings, any advice, encouragement, or how was your pregnancy while being a nurse? I just feel anxious and burned out. sorry for the horrible format as well, I am typing on my phone for the first time. Thank you. submitted by /u/Sad_Tough_990 [link] [comments]
