A series of final 'Win and You're In' chances were on tap Saturday at Keeneland, and Rhetorical (Not This Time) stood tall amongst the winners as a dominating conqueror of the GI Coolmore Turf Mile. Trainer Will Walden confirms that his stable star will prep for the GI Breeders' Cup Mile at Churchill before shipping back down for the Oct. 31 contest. After becoming only the third back-to-back winner of the race, Rhetorical has emerged from the effort in good form and has already shipped back to the Walden barn at Churchill. He will remain there and do most of the prep in Louisville ahead of the Mile.“He ate well last night and looked great jogging this morning,” Walden said. “Obviously we'll keep a close eye on him over the next couple days, but right now he couldn't have come out of it any better.”His stablemate Minaret Station (Instilled Regard) also claimed his spot at the Breeders' Cup by way of his victory in the GI Joe Hirsch Turf Classic 48 hours earlier at Belmont Park. The 4-year-old's automatic berth is for the GI Breeders' Cup Turf. According to Walden, he too will remain at Churchill ahead of the World Championships.Classic Q Eyes Breeders' Cup After First Lady, Connections Have a Choice to Make…There's worse positions to be in than having to choose between two different Breeders' Cup contests, and that's exactly what awaits the connections of Classic Q (Classic Empire) after the filly claimed the GI First Lady Stakes at Keeneland on Saturday. With potential starts in the Breeders' Cup Mile and Filly and Mare Turf both in her wheelhouse, the Mark Casse-trainee has given her connections an enviable (if agonizing) position to analyze in the coming weeks. Should she go to the Mile, the grey would have the legacy of the late Tepin in her corner as the Hall of Fame racemare also used the First Lady as a prep ahead of the 2015 contest at Keeneland.“Eeny, meeny, miny, moe,” Casse joked about how he'll make the choice. “It's how I train all my horses.”“I'll talk to Johnny Velazquez a little bit about it. He'll have some thoughts. I have some thoughts, too. We know she can go a mile and I think she'll go a mile and three-sixteenths, too.”Breeders' Futurity Trifecta to Contest BC JuvenileAmerican History (Constitution), Coach Pope (Tapit), and Q B Rocket (Gun Runner) are all possibles for the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile after they went one-two-three, respectively, in Saturday's GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity.American history | Coady MediaAmerican History secured a paid spot with his win in the Breeders' Futurity and trainer Todd Pletcher has already confirmed that the chestnut will remain in the Keeneland string to prepare for the Juvenile.Coach Pope is slated to remain at Keeneland as well ahead of a possible run in the Juvenile.“He will stay at Keeneland and point to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile,” said trainer Kenny McPeek. “They went a little quick early and went eyeball to eyeball with Q B Rocket. That was asking a lot. He held off the one he was up against and then he got run down. He will get a lot out of this race and move forward.”Q B Rocket would ship to Churchill Downs while his connections considered the Breeders' Cup, according to Blake Cox, assistant to trainer Brad Cox.TCA Trio Headed to Breeders' Cup, Joe Shiesty to Turf SprintThe top three from the 'WAYI' GII Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes, namely Evanescence (Munnings)–the winner, runner-up Praying (Vekoma), and Eclatant (Into Mischief), will all point to the GI Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. The Eddie Kenneally-trained victress will return to Churchill to prep, while Robert Medina's daughter of Vekoma will remain at Keeneland to train. Eclatant, according to Blake Cox, would also remain at the Lexington venue.“[Evanescence has] been training for a while there [Churchill],” Kenneally said. “We have some at Keeneland, but we wanted to send her back for now. It all looks like the Breeders' Cup. We'll get together soon and make a final decision, but that looks like the plan.”In the Eric Foster barn, Joe Shiesty (Air Force Blue) came out swinging in the GII Woodford Stakes on Saturday, and put himself into the Breeders' Cup conversation with a strong performance.“He's doing really well,” Foster said. “As long as he's healthyand training good, that [the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint] will be our plan.”“He's got a good record everywhere, but I think he thrives off the crowd at Keeneland. He likes [them]. We were tickled with him.”The gelding has already shipped back to Ellis Park and will train there before returning to Keeneland for the Breeders' Cup.Trainer Wesley Ward has not ruled out a start in the Breeders' Cup for Woodford runner-up No Nay Hudson (Ire) (No Nay Never), but said a final decision would be made after speaking to the connections.“I spoke with Jose Ortiz after the race and he said we might have won if the race had set up a little different,” Ward said. “We asked him what he thought about the Breeders' Cup and he said 'Absolutely.'”The post Keeneland Updates: Rhetorical to Prep at Churchill, Saturday’s Winners Announce Breeders’ Cup Intentions appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
