I am leaving my New Grad Hospital Job after only 1.5 months. I absolutely hate it. The overnights are killing me and I can't function. I accepted the position PT nights as that was all that was available allegedly but I have been orienting along other new grads on FT Days. Also because I was hired PT, my education department says I only need to train PT. So I am technically getting about 2 weeks less of training than my fellow FT new grads, which in this hospital environment makes me very uncomfortable. Theres a ton of policies but they arent posted & no one csnt tell me where to find them. I wont go into detail of my patient load demographic but its the usual you would see on a med surg floor a lot of dementia, and people who have given up. My pt load is always 6 pt's and almsot half the department is agency nurses. When I was hired I was told its completely self schedule, then found out through coworkers I had an obligatory weekend and then also that it wasn't truly self schedule and I'd be put on the shifts where staff was needed. This is a major issue as I have no one to watch my kids overnight when they do this and have to call out or beg and plead for a swap. I found a nice hospice job with good pay and flexible hours, 8 hour shifts, local. The vibe is completeley different, smaller organizationan and very warm and close knit. I was a hospice aide before nursing school, the whole reason I became a nurse. I just feel so done with the hospital and part of me knew I would never be happy outside hospice especially after nursing school but I really wanted to make it work. I really wanted to see this through but I feel so overwhelmed and undersupported and honestly really annoyed by the scheduling issues and training shortening. I dont even know how to give my notice at this current place honestly since I'm still on oritentstion for another week or so. How much notice is appropriate for nursing? What do I even say? Thanks. submitted by /u/Secret_Past2297 [link] [comments]
