We hired a contractor who would take our code review comments, paste them into Cursor, and paste whatever came out back as his reply. We'd leave a comment like "why did you make this change?" and get back three paragraphs of perfectly formatted AI slop explaining code he clearly hadn't read either. Every PR was the same. Cursor wrote the code, Cursor wrote the description, Cursor answered the review. Honestly, the audacity was lowkey inspiring. It took me way too long to realize I was the only human actually reading any of it. Once I noticed, I couldn't stop. Now anytime I see a Slack message or doc at work with obvious AI fingerprints, I trust it less. Might just be me, but I don't think so. Here's the part that sucks though. I was doing the same thing. At my old job I worked on a product with millions of daily visitors, and I spent a lot of time chasing down nasty bugs deep in the codebase. I'd dig in, find the root cause, and write up what broke, how I found it, and what the fix was. Real work. Then I'd paste it into ChatGPT with "fix spelling, grammar, formatting, and wordiness." Out came a clean writeup with em dashes and every other AI tell. I bet half the people reading it assumed I vibe coded the fix and never checked my own work. That's the problem. AI-looking writing reads as low effort, even when the person behind it did the work and verified every word. So people end up manually stripping out em dashes and rewriting things to sound like themselves. I figured all this out while high on my couch staring at a wall, trying to think of things that annoy me. (My first micro SaaS, spritzreader.com, got to 11 paying customers with basically zero marketing, so I've been itching to build another one.) So I built Thirdraft: https://www.thirdraft.com/ You upload a few samples of your own writing, it builds a style guide for how you write, and then it rewrites AI-generated text to sound like you. 3 ways to use it: On the website Chrome extension (pending Chrome Web Store review) MCP server you can set up in one click with almost any AI tool I use the MCP with Cursor at work for bug writeups and PR descriptions, and it's been great. Full disclosure: I used AI to help write this post, then ran it through Thirdraft. Could you tell? If you try it, let me know what you think. Brutal feedback welcome. submitted by /u/nhrkhare [link] [comments]
