I’m thinking about taking a PRN inpatient job while keeping my day surgery job and I’m trying to figure out if I’m setting myself up to be miserable

Wait 5 sec.

I work 4 days a week right now. I’ve asked about 3 12s, but it doesn’t seem like those are opening up anytime soon because they really need people there early during the week. I haven’t asked about going part time yet because I don’t want to cut my guaranteed hours before I even know if I like the other job, and I also need to figure out how part time would affect my benefits/pay/PTO/etc. The PRN job would be more general inpatient/critical care type stuff. I’ve done inpatient before, but I’ve been in outpatient for a while now so I’m probably rusty. I’m willing to learn and honestly want the experience, plus I need the extra money. Eventually I plan on leaving my current area and I need the money for that and I want more marketability. My biggest concern is orientation and whether the job is actually PRN. I can deal with a crappy schedule temporarily if it gets me back up to speed, but I genuinely do not think I can work 7 days a week for an extended amount of weeks straight. I need at least one day off 😭 My current thought is to get the PRN job first, see how the orientation and actual scheduling go, and then maybe consider dropping to part time at my main job later if I like it. If I hate the PRN job, I can just work the minimum or quit (and leave it off my resume). Has anyone done something similar? How did you manage orientation while working another job, and how long was your PRN orientation? submitted by /u/DessMounda [link] [comments]
