Disney Confirms Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Replacement, Magic Kingdom Ride Closing in November

Overnight, Walt Disney World Resort replaced a controversial element of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at the Magic Kingdom. This comes just days after the Frontierland attraction was closed for several hours, with maintenance cast members draining the water from the log flume ride to address an unknown technical problem.A Controversial Addition to the Magic KingdomCredit: DisneyOver the last several months, Walt Disney World Resort has slowly been swapping out metal trash cans throughout the theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs for a new, more efficient, and sanitary design. The new trash cans feature curved lids, hands-free foot pedals, and, when outdoors, solar panels that power an internal compactor, reducing the number of times custodial cast members need to swap out the bags.As with most changes at the Disney parks, the new trash cans caused controversy among some guests. During crowded festivals at EPCOT, such as the International Food & Wine Festival and the International Festival of the Holidays, Disney Park guests have long used flat-top trash cans as impromptu tables. Many were overflowing after guests failed to step on the foot pedal, brute-forcing their trash into the handle instead of fully opening the receptacle. The problem was so widespread that Disney posted a video instructing cast members and guests on how to use the hands-free cans.Nevertheless, Walt Disney World Resort continued replacing standard metal cans with themed versions of the new design…until October 4, when guests arrived at Magic Kingdom Park to find that some of the new waste receptacles had disappeared.Quiet Change at Tiana’s Bayou AdventureCredit: DisneyOn Sunday, WDWNT reported that the updated trash cans were removed from the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure queue at Magic Kingdom Park. The outlet shared this photo showing that the old metal waste bins were back in line for the Frontierland attraction:It’s unclear why the trash cans were removed, or whether they will eventually return. Other versions of the new waste receptacles remain in use around Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and Disney Springs.Credit: Erica Lauren, Inside the MagicThis isn’t the only change coming to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The reimagined Splash Mountain, which debuted in 2024, is scheduled to close for its first-ever refurbishment on November 2, 2026. It is expected to reopen sometime in December, but Walt Disney World Resort has yet to announce an exact date.Have you been on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure since it replaced Splash Mountain?
