Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests are about to lose access to an attraction that has become an easy escape from the crowds, heat, and long attraction lines.And this isn’t the first time.Walt Disney World has confirmed that Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie will temporarily close later this month, marking yet another interruption for the attraction in 2026.Credit: Disney DiningThe closure comes just weeks after Vacation Fun returned from its most recent extended shutdown. Now, guests have only a few weeks to experience it before the doors close again.Disney hasn’t announced exactly how long the latest closure will last. However, what happened at the same location last holiday season offers a major clue about what could be coming next.Disney World Confirms October 28 ClosureVacation Fun will temporarily close at Disney’s Hollywood Studios beginning October 28, 2026.That means October 27 is currently the final day guests can experience the attraction before the latest shutdown begins.Located inside the Mickey Shorts Theater, Vacation Fun gives guests a chance to watch an original animated adventure featuring Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.The attraction originally debuted in March 2020, shortly before Walt Disney World temporarily closed its theme parks. It arrived alongside Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which replaced The Great Movie Ride inside the nearby Chinese Theatre.Unlike the park’s major rides, Vacation Fun isn’t something that usually requires a complicated touring strategy. Guests can stop by, sit down inside an air-conditioned theater, and enjoy the animated short without committing a major portion of their day to it.That makes its upcoming closure particularly noticeable during a busy time of year.Disney has not provided a reason for the October 28 shutdown. It also hasn’t announced an official reopening date.However, the timing looks very familiar.Disney Jollywood Nights Could Explain the ShutdownWhile Disney has not officially connected the closure to Disney Jollywood Nights, the Mickey Shorts Theater underwent a similar transformation during the 2025 holiday season.Vacation Fun closed in late October 2025 and remained unavailable through late December. During that period, Disney used the theater as a merchandise location connected to Disney Jollywood Nights.With the 2026 closure beginning at nearly the same point on the calendar, the holiday event appears to be a likely explanation for why Vacation Fun is disappearing again.Credit: DisneyDisney Jollywood Nights is the separately ticketed holiday event held at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Rather than operating like an ordinary park night, the event brings exclusive entertainment, food, character experiences, and other seasonal offerings to the park.Those additions require Disney to make temporary operational changes throughout Hollywood Studios.If Disney once again plans to use the Mickey Shorts Theater as a merchandise location, Vacation Fun could potentially remain closed throughout much of the holiday season.The attraction could remain unavailable into early January 2027 if Disney follows last year’s pattern. However, that remains an expectation rather than an announced reopening timeline. Disney has only confirmed the October 28 closure.And for Vacation Fun, temporary shutdowns are becoming surprisingly common.This Will Be the Fourth Closure in Under a YearThe October closure becomes more significant when looking at everything that has happened at the Mickey Shorts Theater since last fall.This will reportedly be the fourth time in less than a year that the theater has closed to support another event or temporary activation.The first came with Disney Jollywood Nights in late 2025, when Vacation Fun closed from late October through late December.Then came another closure in spring 2026.Vacation Fun became unavailable from April 29 through May 5 as Disney used the space for a Star Wars May the 4th merchandise event.Another much longer closure followed during the summer.The Mickey Shorts Theater closed beginning August 9 for Walt Disney World Annual Passholder Kermit the Frog magnet distribution. That closure stretched through September 27.Credit: DisneyVacation Fun finally reopened on September 28.Now, barely a month after welcoming guests back inside, Disney will close it once again on October 28.That means the theater has increasingly become a flexible space Disney can repurpose when Hollywood Studios needs somewhere to host merchandise sales, Annual Passholder offerings, or other limited-time experiences.For guests who enjoy Vacation Fun, that flexibility comes with a downside. Even though the attraction remains part of Hollywood Studios, its operating schedule has become less predictable.Vacation Fun Has Been Part of Hollywood Studios Since 2020Vacation Fun is still relatively young compared with many Walt Disney World attractions.The animated short opened in March 2020 as part of a larger Mickey Mouse presence at Hollywood Studios.The attraction follows the visual style of the modern Mickey Mouse animated shorts and gives Mickey and Minnie another dedicated experience inside the park.Its location also carries plenty of Hollywood Studios history.Long before Mickey Shorts Theater moved in, the building housed Sounds Dangerous Starring Drew Carey. The theater later became home to other experiences before Disney eventually transformed the space for Vacation Fun.The current attraction doesn’t have the scale of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog Dash, or Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.Credit: DisneyBut that’s also part of its appeal.Not every experience needs to be a major headliner. Vacation Fun gives families a place to slow down, sit in air conditioning, and take a break without necessarily leaving the park.Those smaller experiences can become especially useful during crowded afternoons when standby waits rise and guests want something that doesn’t require another long line.For visitors arriving in late October or during the holiday season, however, Vacation Fun may no longer be an option.Hollywood Studios Continues to ChangeThe temporary closure also comes during a period of significant change for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.The park has continued evolving in 2026, with new experiences arriving and larger projects reshaping what guests will find in the years ahead.That makes operational capacity particularly important.When even a smaller attraction closes, guests have one fewer place to go. Vacation Fun may not command the waits associated with Hollywood Studios’ biggest rides, but it still absorbs guests and provides another indoor entertainment option.Its closure could be especially noticeable for families with younger children or visitors looking for an easy break during the afternoon.At the same time, the repeated repurposing of Mickey Shorts Theater suggests Disney sees the location as useful for much more than its regular attraction.Over the last year, it has supported a holiday event, a Star Wars merchandise offering, and an Annual Passholder giveaway. Another likely holiday transformation now appears to be coming.That creates an unusual situation where an attraction that technically remains open at Hollywood Studios can disappear for weeks at a time when Disney needs the space for something else.Guests Have Until October 27For now, guests still have time to experience Vacation Fun before the doors close.The attraction is scheduled to remain available through October 27, with the temporary closure beginning October 28.What happens after that remains less certain.Disney hasn’t confirmed that Jollywood Nights is responsible for the shutdown, and it hasn’t announced when Vacation Fun will reopen.
