Singer and media personality Lady Titie opened up about the long-standing story behind the two versions of the popular song “Kankyakyankye,” explaining why both she and Blu*3 ended up releasing their own versions of the track.Speaking during a sit-down interview with Haffy Powers, Lady Titie revealed that she originally recorded the song at Steve Jean’s studio before the then-managed Blu*3 got an opportunity to travel to South Africa after winning several awards.According to Lady Titie, while in South Africa, Blu*3 were tasked with recording original compositions, but Steve Jean reportedly had to turn to “Kankyakyankye” because communication with her was difficult at the time. There was a time I couldn’t talk about it but now it’s okay. Kankyakyankye, I go to Steve Jean’s studio, I record it. Those were the days Blu3 had won some awards and had to travel to South Africa to record. When they touched down in South Africa, they were tasked to record original songs. That time Steve Jean couldn’t communicate to me because there was no mood of communication to give me a heads-up on what was going down in South Africa to get permission for Blu3 to record my song. So it was some sort of miscommunication.Lady Titie said that, unaware of what was happening in South Africa, she proceeded to distribute her version to radio stations for airplay. She revealed that the song was written by a man identified as Kiseka, who has since passed away, and that he had already been fully paid for his contribution.Even on my side, since I had the song in my hands, I took it to radio stations for airplay. It was meanwhile written by a guy called Kiseka (RIP), and I had fully paid his dues. I first gave it to Masembe when he was still working at CBS FM.Lady Titie said that when Blu*3 returned from South Africa, Steve Jean contacted her about the song and was surprised to learn that she had already sent her version to radio stations.According to her, Jean explained that the song was still incomplete and had not been officially cleared for release because he wanted to perfect it.However, Lady Titie admitted that when she eventually heard Blu*3’s version, she felt the group had taken the song to another level.Content Creator Yagga counts his blessing as he shows off his new BMWBut when I heard their version of the song, it was good and very good, and mine couldn’t compete.
