Kindness may feel like a small thing, but what happens inside a family can quietly shape how the next generation treats others. A 2021 cross-cultural study led by Concetta Pastorelli, which followed 1,107 families across 8 countries and 11 cultural groups, found that greater parental warmth was associated with increases in children’s prosocial behavior over time. In other words, the love, compassion, and kindness children experience at home may help teach them how to pass those same qualities on to others.Today, we’re looking at 15 heartwarming family moments that show how a thoughtful gesture from a parent, grandparent, sibling, or relative can echo for years—and sometimes travel through generations.
