Antonio Conte has reflected on his 16-month stint at Tottenham Hotspur, including what frustrated him about Daniel Levy, and the media narrative that drove him mad.Conte got a tune out of the players during his first 12 months at Tottenham, helping the club secure Champions League qualification in the 2021-22 season by pipping Arsenal to fourth spot on the final day of the season. However, after a strong start to the 2022-23 season, things started unravelling for the Italian, especially after the mid-season World Cup in Qatar. The Italian eventually departed the club in March of 2023, but not before the former Spurs boss unleashed a spectacular rant at his players and the club, following a 3-3 draw with Southampton.RankCoachPoints/mPointsMWDLGGC1Tim Sherwood1.914222133640302Mauricio Pochettino1.8938220211343463722063Antonio Conte1.881055632915112644Andre Villas-Boas1.83995429121381675Harry Redknapp1.742501447137362281616Jose Mourinho1.64955827141797677Ryan Mason1.58191261526208Martin Jol1.511711134730361681469Nuno Espirito Santo1.50151050591610Ray Clemence1.405942161115606611Gerry Francis1.3916511943364015014212Ange Postecoglou1.371047631113413812613George Graham1.311289833293612912314David Pleat1.29493814717515515Glenn Hoddle1.281148932183911614116Christian Gross1.2634279711354117Jacques Santini1.1813113446818Osvaldo Ardiles1.156254161424758319Juande Ramos1.144136101115545220Thomas Frank1.1229267811363721Roberto De Zerbi1.081312345101522Cristian Stellini1.004411261123Igor Tudor0.2015014413Photo by Warren Little/Getty ImagesAntonio Conte admits he wanted to turn Tottenham into a winning teamThe Italian had a successful two-year stint at Napoli since leaving Spurs, taking the club to the Scudetto in his first year in charge.Conte has now reflected on his time at Tottenham Hotspur, revealing why he took the job and the thing that frustrated him about the mentality at the club. The 57-year-old told The Athletic: “I went to Tottenham with the ambition to turn things round a bit. Partly because (managing director of football and former Juventus colleague Fabio) Paratici was there. When I arrived, they were ninth. We finished fourth, overtaking Arsenal.”“I remember we weren’t winning or we’d drawn a game and I sent (then chairman) Daniel Levy a message. He came back to me, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll win the next one’.”While the former Spurs chief meant that supportively, to Conte it spoke volumes, with the Italian explaining his response as: “What the…?’ I kept saying to him, ‘Look!'”Conte was angry with the media narrative around SpursAcross much of the Premier League era, Tottenham have been known as the nearly men, who tend to fall at the final hurdle, with the term ‘Spursy’ becoming a meme among pundits and opposition fans. The former Spurs head coach admitted that he was angered when he heard his team talked about in that manner.Conte added: “The thing that drove me mad was hearing people around me saying, ‘Tottenham are never going to win anything’. That they’re losers. They were made fun of.“They’re still being made fun of. Even now. Arsenal lost 3-0 to Brighton (in their final game before this international break), and they were joking, ‘Arsenal have turned into Tottenham’ get it? Believe me, this irritated me a lot.”READ MORE: ‘He felt dizzy’ – Xavi confirms Micky van de Ven injury is not serious for TottenhamThe post Antonio Conte reveals what drove him ‘mad’ at Tottenham, including a Daniel Levy text appeared first on Spurs Web.
