Estevao has been warned against leaving Chelsea for Barcelona amid growing frustration over his lack of game time. The 19-year-old hasn’t started a Premier League match so far this season, playing just 23 minutes in four appearances.Estevao hasn’t started a game for Chelsea in the Premier League so far this season, playing just 23 minutes across for appearancesGettyCole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro have formed an incredible forward trio under new boss Xabi Alonso. And that has left Estevao on the fringes of the starting line-up, having only been introduced as a late substitute in games. He has started both of the Blues’ Carabao Cup fixtures this term, but even in one of those clashes he was taken off at half time. The Brazilian hasn’t registered a goal or an assist in any competition, with his lack of game time affecting his output.Carlo Ancelotti still called Estevao up to the national team for this international break though, and he did manage to score and provide an assist in a friendly against India last weekend. But starting for Chelsea still seems like it’s going to be a tough task considering Palmer, Rogers and Pedro’s start to the season. So, does Estevao look for a way out? He reportedly has Barcelona keeping tabs on his situation in the Premier League. But talkSPORT’s European football expert, Andy Brassell, thinks a move to the LaLiga champions would be bizarre, considering he plays in the same position as Ballon d’Or contender Lamine Yamal. Why would Estevao want to join Barcelona?“How’s he going to get extra game time at Barca?” Brassell asked.“In the summer of 2025, the sporting director Deco made it clear that the priority was more than replacing Robert Lewandowski, but having cover for Raphinha and Lamine Yamal out wide. Brassell has suggested Estevao has more of a chance of getting minutes for Chelsea than BarcaGetty“That is just going to be a theme going forward… they’ve got Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi as well, they are options for them.“Estevao would be that kind of locum for Lamine Yamal.”He added: “If you’re someone who has desires of being a superstar and I’m your agent I ring you up and say, ‘I’ve got a great gig for you, here’s backing up one of the best players in the world who plays exactly your position’, what would you say?“I know Barcelona are an alluring prospect but I don’t think anyone could believe in themselves enough to think they’re going to consistently take games off of Lamine Yamal.“Maybe there’s a new plan going forward for Yamal where he only played two thirds of games, again that feels very unlikely to me… if he plays 40 of 60 games as season, that’d maybe be 20 games [for his back-up], that’s not much of a sell.“It’s a little bit like backing up Harry Kane or Lewandowski. Superstars who are really consistent and never miss a game.”The Brazilian would have to compete with Yamal and Raphinha for a starting spot – and taking the former’s place will be an impossible taskGettyWhich teams should Estevao NOT join?Brassell went on to list Barcelona as one of the teams that Estevao shouldn’t consider leaving Chelsea to sign for.He also picked to other European giants that the Brazil international needs to stay away from if he wants gametime.“So, Estevao, if he wants to go somewhere and play, I think really it’s easy to name the places he shouldn’t go,” he said.“Don’t go to PSG, don’t go to Real Madrid, don’t go to Barcelona.”‘A massive missed opportunity’Estevao has only been a Chelsea player for just over a year, playing 42 games in all competitions and scoring eight goals. But with his minutes getting to him, a quick exit may happen, and Brassell thinks that will be disappointing for both parties.Estevao is good enough to start for Chelsea and it would be disappointing to see him leave, according to BrassellGetty“I think he’s good enough to get in the Chelsea team consistently, I don’t think there’s any doubt about that,” he said.“Of course, he had that injury that made him miss the World Cup, and I think to recover fitness and consistency to make yourself an impactful player in the Premier League is really difficult.“So, I think he needs time and with time I think he goes on to be one of Chelsea’s best players.“If Chelsea sold him, it would be a massive missed opportunity for them because I don’t think they’d make an enormous profit.“And it would be a missed opportunity for him too, to be a star and a starter at a big Premier League club.”
