When Moses Itauma returns to the ring next year, he will still have Ben Davison in his corner. His decision comes in the aftermath of his first defeat as a professional against Filip Hrgovic in August.Itauma will be led into battle by Davison once againGettyItauma had been dominating proceedings until he was stopped in the ninth round when his gas ran empty.Davison and Itauma’s entire training team came under fire for the youngster’s lack of conditioning, and a meeting was subsequently called by Frank Warren to dissect the defeat and discuss his client’s next steps.According to Warren, the 21-year-old will return to the ring in January against a step down in opposition. And the team will remain the same, with Davison remaining at the helm. What did Frank Warren say about Moses Itauma staying with Ben Davison?“There has been a conversation, and the proof will be in the pudding,” Warren told Playbook Boxing. “He’s staying with Ben and the team. That’s where he is at.“You’ve got to judge him now on his results, which is what we’ll do.“AJ is back with Ben for his next fight, and there is a reason for that.“It is always the case: if a fighter is winning, the trainer is great. If he gets beat, [he’s not].“I signed off on that fight. At the end of the day, if any of them fight, that’s down to me.Itauma suffered a ninth-round stoppage loss to Hrgovic in August when he unsuccessfully challenged for the vacant IBF titleGetty“I accept my responsibility for that, and everyone has to accept responsibility for it.“You expect certain things to happen in fights and certain things to happen in training.“It is what it is; we have to move and move forward. It is exciting times.“Next year is going to be so exciting, and there are some good trainers, but what there isn’t a lot of really good coaches that are around that teach boxing.”What are Filip Hrgovic’s next steps?Hrgovic is also expected to return to the ring in January in a homecoming fight in Croatia.IBF mandatory challenger Frank Sanchez took a step aside fee to allow Hrgovic and Itauma to box for the vacant world title and is now set to finally get his shot early next year.Watch Boxing on DAZN*If you click a link in this boxout, we will earn affiliate revenueSign up to DAZN to access the definitive subscription for boxing fans.Upgrade to DAZN Ultimate from just £24.99/month, guaranteeing access to 185+ fights annually, a minimum of 12 pay-per-views at no extra cost, as well as every Lega Serie A match and other elite football access.Alternatively, DAZN Standard is just £15.99/month, with the caveat you will have to pay for pay-per-view events.Click here to sign up.
