Disneyland Cast Members Pop 3-Year-Old’s Birthday Balloons, Citing Security Risk

A baker delivering a customized birthday cake to the Disneyland Hotel was surprised when Disneyland Resort security cast members refused to allow her to bring balloons onto the property, and popped them right in front of her. The Southern California Disney Park guest shared her experience in a video on social media.Disneyland Security Pops Woman’s BalloonsCredit: Brian McGowan, UnsplashOn October 5, Instagram user @mos_magical_cakes shared a video of herself and her sister delivering a Toy Story (1995)- and Cars (2006)-themed birthday cake and balloons to a family staying at the Disneyland Hotel. Parking for non-overnight guests at the Disneyland Hotel was full, so she parked in the Pixar Pals Parking Structure and walked through the Downtown Disney District to the Disneyland Hotel. To enter the Downtown Disney District, though, guests must go through a security checkpoint. Unfortunately, security cast members wouldn’t allow most of the balloons the baker brought into the secure area. Not every Disneyland delivery is all pixie dust and perfect timing What started as a sweet cake + balloon delivery turned into a whole ordeal with security… but thankfully, we still made the birthday magic happen in the end. Have you ever heard of this balloon rule before? #mosmagicalcakes #customcakes #disneylanddelivery #disneylandhotel #cakedelivery View this post on Instagram A post shared by Monique Rojas (@mos_magical_cakes)One cast member informed the guests that Mylar balloons (such as the shiny red foil number three) aren’t allowed in the Downtown Disney District due to a safety issue with the Monorail. However, when the pair arrived at the security checkpoint, another cast member told them that none of the balloons were allowed, and began popping them.“They need to be see-through,” the Disney cast member said.Thankfully, the original cast member stepped in and prevented him from popping all of the latex balloons.Credit: Disney“Then, the other sweet cast member who said we couldn’t take the [Mylar] balloons said, ‘Hey, they could keep the latex ones,'” the guest said. “So…tell me why he popped most of our balloons for no reason? I mean, it is what it is…”Despite the mix-up, the pair managed to deliver the birthday cake and remaining latex balloons to the family staying at the Disneyland Hotel.Possible LoopholeIn the comments, many Disney Parks fans informed the baker that, even when the Disneyland Hotel parking is full, she can tell cast members she is making a delivery and utilize a dedicated drop-off area. This way, she would not have encountered the security checkpoint and would have been allowed to keep her balloons.Credit: Steven Miller, Flickr“You definitely didn’t have to go through security to get to the disneyland hotel and you could’ve kept all the balloons,” @_roxy__babby_ wrote. “You just go to the Disneyland hotel parking lot and tell the cast member you are just dropping something off and they let you right through to the drop off. No security, no paying for parking just dropping off!!”“Drive up to the hotel and do a drop off,” @ebarajas99 agreed. “They give you free 30min for drop offs. No need to walk all the way from the mickey and friends parking structure.”What the Disneyland Resort Rules SayCredit: DisneyMultiple responses on planDisney, an official panel of regular Disney Parks vacationers who answer questions about Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, indicate that Mylar/shiny foil balloons are “on the list of items not permitted at Disneyland Resort.” However, the current list of prohibited items on Disneyland Resort’s website does not include Mylar balloons.Of course, the Disneyland Resort rules do indicate that security cast members have the right to “prohibit the use or storage of any other item not listed above that we determine may be harmful or disruptive, in our sole and absolute discretion.”Given the uncertainty about bringing balloons into Disneyland Resort, guests who want to celebrate a special occasion at the Southern California Disney parks, Downtown Disney, or the Disney Resort hotels are encouraged to purchase a balloon onsite.Have you had a memorable encounter with security cast members at Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort?
