The opening of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has put the club on a completely new financial footing, making them capable of competing financially with the biggest clubs in Europe.Although there was a lot of sadness among Spurs fans about the demolition of the historic White Hart Lane in 2017, the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has undoubtedly transformed the club’s finances.We saw its effect in the recent summer window as Spurs flexed their financial muscle to complete a substantial squad rebuild, leaving many rivals’ fans jealous.The reason the stadium has had a transformative effect is not just down to the increase in matchday revenue, but also due to the fact that it is a multi-use venue with a retractable pitch, thus capable of hosting NFL, other sporting events and concerts.The NFL rolled into N17 again over the weekend, with 60,907 fans watching Indianapolis Colts overcome the Washington Commanders 30-13 in the first of this year’s London Games.Photo by SpursWebThe financial impact of Tottenham’s stadium move analysedFootball.London’s Alasdair Gold has now taken a closer look at how the club’s coffers have been impacted since the move to the new venue.He reveals that Spurs earn revenue of around £6m per game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, compared to just £1m per match at White Hart Lane.Spurs’ annual matchday revenue in the 2024/25 accounts was £126m and their commercial income, which includes NFL games and other events, was an eye-watering £277m.In comparison, at the Lane, Spurs’ matchday income was only around £45m while their commercial income was £73m.With regard to the NFL arrangement, Tottenham mainly make money from the original NFL deal, the rent fee paid by the NFL, and through enormous sales of food, drink and merchandise from their megastore.Gold also shares that, according to sources, the revenue the club earn from the NFL has risen between five and 10 per cent over the last couple of years.Indianapolis Colts star in awe of playing at Spurs’ stadiumThe opportunity to play at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was a dream come true for Colts’ kicker Spencer Shrader, who played football as an attacking midfielder during his school days.As a fan of the Premier League, he admitted that it was an extremely special occasion to play at Tottenham’s home ground, in front of some big names whom he grew up watching on TV.Shrader said (via Football.London): “During the game you’re trying to not get overwhelmed, but there are those moments where you look around the stadium like, I cannot believe we’re in Tottenham’s stadium.“This is so cool. And then they showed Wayne Rooney [on the big screen]. That’s the craziest thing, we grew up watching him. We appreciated the experience and did our best to take it all in and not get overwhelmed by the environment. We still had a job to do and stay locked in for the task at hand.“I think the coolest thing is this stadium is capable of undergoing a complete transformation for us to come in, and it feels very much like an NFL field.
