COLA Set To Rise To Around €5 In 2027, Clyde Caruana Says

Malta’s cost-of-living adjustment is expected to be around €5 per week in 2027, Finance Minister Clyde Caruana has revealed ahead of this month’s Budget.Caruana was speaking on Tuesday morning during a live pre-budget business breakfast hosted by Times of Malta editor-in-chief Herman Grech, when he was asked about next year’s COLA.He said the figure is likely to hover around the €5 mark, although the final amount has not yet been determined.“We will know after this week,” Caruana said, explaining that he is waiting for this month’s Retail Price Index before the figure can be finalised.The adjustment would be slightly higher than this year’s €4.66 weekly COLA, which was the lowest increase in four years. COLA reached €12.81 in 2024 before dropping to €5.24 in 2025.COLA is calculated through a fixed formula based on changes in the cost of a basket of goods and is paid by employers as part of workers’ salaries.The final figure is expected to be announced when the government unveils Budget 2027 on 26th October.What do you make of a COLA increase of around €5?•
