So we got this new scheduling thing, supposed to "balance labor allocation across demand curves" or whatever the email said. It just showed up in the manager's office and now our self-scheduling sheet is gone. I found out when I tried to trade a weekend and the system flagged me for "noncompliant availability patterns." I've been at this hospital for a long tome, I know which nights we need four nurses and which nights we need six because one of our patient's water broke early three years in a row and the algorithm does not know about her fertility (or maybe not yet). What's even more crazy is the vendor guy who came to "train" us admitted he'd never seen a labor floor. Kept calling the OR "the surgery room." But someone three floors up decided this software upgrade is needed and now I'm explaining to a night nurse who got auto-scheduled for days that the appeal form goes to an inbox nobody checks. It's frustrating the way it gets dumped on us and on something that was already working fine, zero input from people who actually know when the contraction pattern means call the OB now versus that's just her third kid and she's dramatic. We're the safety net for when it's wrong and we don't even get to say "this seems wrong" before it's live. submitted by /u/Big-Priority5960 [link] [comments]
