What does a “good nurse” look like from the perspective of your field or profession?

Wait 5 sec.

I listened to a podcast recently that began by discussing the lack of experienced nurses in critical care and then led into qualities that the hosts looked for in a competent bedside nurse. Some of these things revolved around how our task prioritization affected their work flow, and ultimately patient care, which led me to change how I do some things. I gained insight that I wasn’t expecting, probably because I’ve been doing this for so long I think I have gotten lazy about self-improvement. I know that from my limited ICU nurse perspective, I could tell you what makes for an exceptional resident physician, physical therapist, case manager, etc., but since I am a nurse, and my primary stake in this is to improve bedside nursing practice, can we discuss what makes for a good nurse from your perspective based on what field or profession you’re in? I am hoping this is allowed and can generate professional discussion, rather than be an outlet for frustration towards the nursing field. submitted by /u/PaulaNancyMillstoneJ [link] [comments]
